TPAM 2022
The poster ensures the first encounter between the audience and the performance. It captures the audience and leads it to the hall. In many cases live performances are limited to a specific venue, and bringing them out, to the local audience becomes crucial. Even though the digital age often requires that posters be adapted to online platforms, they still represent a prominent print format. In view of the global issues that emerged in recent years, the audience is just beginning to return to the theatres, proving that theatres play an important role in shedding light on collective and social psychology.
Thus, the theatre poster becomes increasingly symbolic and important, given that theatres strive to draw attention with striking images, inspiring photos, and creative approach that will capture the audience and lead it to the hall.
The purpose of the Theatrical Posters international festival was to reflect on the one hand the once rich culture of theatre posters in Armenia and on the other hand to introduce the local audience to the international trends of modern theatrical posters.
The open call was announced on September 6, 2021, the deadline for submition was extended until May 31, 2022. During the meeting on June 29, 2022, the pre-selection committee selected 95 posters, from 66 authors of 21 countries, from submitted 406 posters from 177 authors of 29 countrie (participation was free and open to all artists, designers and theatres/theatre groups and organisations from all over the world), which were shown in the competition part of the exhibition.
Within the framework of the festival, a selection of posters from the archive of the Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre were exhibited. Thus, not only a part of the archive of the theatre was restored, but an important part of the Armenian poster’s forgotten heritage was shown.
The opening ceremony of the festival held on September 29 at the foyer of the Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre. Public exhibition was open until October 31
